1971 Cuda Convertible For Sale - Plymouth Public Relations Vehicle LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1971 Plymouth Cuda Convertible. With stiff competition from the Mustang and Camaro’s of the 1960’s, Chrysler was paying attention to the rapidly expanding youthful compact car market. Their intermediate Dodge Charger and Plymouth Road Runner models were reasonably successful, but the small Valiant-based Plymouth Barracuda, introduced before the Mustang in 1964, had never made a big splash. The engineers decided to both simplify the Barracuda for its third generation, to be introduced in 1969 as a 1970 model, and to equip it with everything it would need to guarantee success on the street and on the drag strip. The AAR was discontinued for 1971, but the other Cuda variants were carried over with a splash of fish-inspired style; the single headlamps, recessed horizontal grille and integrated signals lights were replaced by quad headlamps flanking a six-"gill" grille and under-bumper signal lights. The 71 Cuda’s also sported four simulated front fender vents, and separate-element tail lamps replaced the one-piece units. Redesigned side stripes included the famous "billboard" units with integrated engine callouts. This 1971 Plymouth Cuda Convertible was built at the Hamtramck, Michigan Assembly Plant and had a scheduled production date of November, 3, 1970. Powered by its numbers matching 383/300HP engine and numbers matching 727 TorqueFlite Transmission, it was ordered specifically as a Plymouth Public Relations Vehicle and left the factory with the highly sought after  GY3 Hi Impact Curious Yellow exterior with White convertible top. Other desirable options that this Cuda left the factory with include; the Light Package, Performance Axle Package, Rallye Instrument Cluster, Power Brakes, Woodgrain Console, Front Bucket Seats, Heater and Air Conditioning, Power Convertible Top, Multiplex AM/FM Stereo, Dual Exhaust System and Chrome Exhaust Tips. Being a 383 Cuda Convertible, it is one of only 9 built with factory air conditioning. It had the benefit of having a full and complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration which has this Cuda now looking and driving better than it did when it left the factory. The Power Convertible Top operates flawlessly and the exterior, interior, engine bay, and undercarriage are all in pristine, excellent condition. The factory correct Hi Impact wet sanded and polished Curious Yellow paint with the 383 Billboards contrast perfectly and create a look that screams golden era Mopar. Accompanying this Cuda is a fully decoded and verified trim tag by Galen Govier, complete visual inspection report by Galen Govier, and two original Broadcast Sheets. It is also of course, listed in the Govier Registry. The value of E-Body convertible Hemi cars have always had a high dollar attachment to them, but more recently, the non-Hemi E-body convertibles are being realized and increasing in

Yes, this is a real-deal mighty 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda AAR. That means rarity, power, and Mopar beauty all come together in the most desirable six-pack package around. So take a look at all the details, but don't admire for too long, or this one might be gone. If you're a Plymouth person, the color is In-Violet; if you're a Dodge person, it's Plum Crazy; and if you're a Mopar fan, you're just excited to see this coupe expertly re-finished in its factory-correct FC7 High Impact color. But a real-deal AAR like this also has something more going for it than just the purple. It's built to be a real race machine in the Trans-Am series, and so the hood is finished in matte black to reduce glare. And because the Mopar guys were always the best at mixing their function with flare, the grille, special spoiler, and unique strobe full length stripe all got the blacked-out treatment, too. These were truly mean machines straight from the factory with the exclusive lightweight fiberglass hood with functional scoop, hood pins, and the exhaust tips poking out just ahead of the rear wheels. And everyone loves the exclusive badging that came on Dan Gurney's All American Racers (AAR). So with this much appeal it's amazing they only produced around 2,724 examples for 1970 – it's first and only year in production. Inside the black vinyl interior nicely coordinates with the exterior accents, and it also is an instant reminder of this 'Cuda's performance spirit. The moment you slip into the high-back bucket seat, you realize just how much the Plymouth people wanted to surround the driver. This is a center console car with the gear selector perfectly molded into the contoured setup. Plus, flanking the sporty three-spoke steering wheel are your controls for heat/defrost and original-style AM radio. In fact, The in the trunk! But you really want this because it's a performance machine. And you're reminded of that the moment you look at Mopar's full round Rallye gauge package with the important tach prominently centered with the steering wheel. When you open the hood, the most important part of the AAR cars is instantly staring straight back at you. The big, bold orange air topper announces the triple set of dual carburetors that make up the powerful six-pack. And this presentation looks correct right down to the rubber diaphragm that seals this big air intake to the hood scoop. Beneath that is the mighty 340 cubic-inch V8 looking just as bold in the correct orange. In fact, everything looks correct and fresh in the engine bay, right down to the radiator shroud. So you know there was a nice investment under the hood. And as you look at the undercarriage photos, the cleanliness of this one tells you that all the right investments have been made in this special 'Cuda. While you're looking down there, you'll also spot great features like the front disc brakes and sway bars front & rear. Add in the three-speed automatic tra

In the pony car wars, it would be a mistake to overlook the early Plymouth Barracuda, whose stunning fastback styling makes it a dramatic alternative to the usual Mustangs and Camaros you see all over the place. With a potent 340 inch small block, surprisingly agile handling, and a first-rate restoration, this relatively rare 1969 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S is a fantastic choice if you're the kind who likes to color a bit outside the lines. First off, this is a real-deal Formula S, the one that Plymouth sent out to do battle with the Boss 302 and Z/28. The slick orange paint is far from a subtle color on a muscle car, and while Mopars are not noted for their subtlety, the Barracuda still prefers to let the dramatic shape do most of the talking. Old school Mopars have an appeal all their own, as Chrysler forged a different path and created a large group of enthusiasts because of it. Doors fit nicely, the hood offers cool chrome inserts that give it a high-performance look without being the usual aftermarket add-ons, and the fastback shape has styling cues that have resonated with Mopar for decades. Black stripes down the center certainly help, letting everyone know this isn't a garden-variety E-body. The finish work is professional grade throughout, with an impressive shine on the paint that reportedly cost more than $20,000. If that's true, it's easy to believe, because this car looks spectacular from any angle. Clean, simple lines inside give the Barracuda an understated style, augmented by a set of bucket seats covered in reproduction seat covers that are exactly like the originals. An aftermarket A/C system under the dash makes it comfortable to drive anywhere, any time, and the wood-rimmed wheel adds a touch of elegance to the all-business driver's compartment. Big, round gauges emphasize that this car was built for performance and the shifter falls to hand easily so you can work the TorqueFlite manually for maximum performance. New carpets, crisply rendered door panels, and a fresh dash pad make it feel new inside, and the doors close with a solid sound, not a hollow rattle like on lesser cars. The back seat has probably not been used since the restoration was completed and folds down to create a massive cargo bay that makes the Barracuda a practical piece of muscle. And in the interest of authenticity, it even includes the original AM/FM radio in the dash, distinctive vertical knobs and all. The trunk is a showplace for the solid floors and thoroughness of the restoration, with every square inch painted and ready to go. We would argue that the 340 cubic inch V8 under the hood of this Barracuda is the one to own; with not a lot of weight to haul around, performance is impressive and handling is very sharp. With a 4-barrel carburetor up top and a traditional Chrysler performance look with the wrinkle-finish air cleaner, there's no question that this car has. There's a crinkle-finish air cleaner, chrome valve covers, and those trick exhaust manifolds that are uniquely Chrysler. Rebuilt perhaps five or six years ago, it runs extremely well and seems to love to rev. The TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission doesn't mind the abuse and with 3.23 gears out back, it is an easy cruiser on the highway, burbling happily through a Magnaflow stainless dual exhaust system. Polished Torque Thrusts with recent BFG tires add the right performance rolling stock to complete the look. Given the skyrocketing values of the later 'Cudas, this Formula S with a snappy small block and a great look suddenly looks like a very smart buy. Call today!
